The reason for launching of the process is expiration of the design operation life-time of ZNPP Unit 3 on 05.03.2017 and, in this relation, development of the Periodic Safety Review Report for the power unit – main document, based on which the State Nuclear Regulation Inspection of Ukraine (SNRIU) will make a decision about the possibility to extend the operation life-time of the power unit.
At the beginning of the hearing the floor was given to Mr. Yury Korobov, Dniprorudne Mayor, who announced the meeting theme to the public.
After this, Zaporizhzhya NPP specialists made presentations about the safety review information for ZNPP unit 3 lifetime extension. Also, a report was made by Vasily Lylak, ZNPP Chief Specialist on Reconstruction and Lifetime Extension of the Power Units – Head of ZNPP Service for Reliability, Resource and Modernization Management. Ihor Kvashnin, Head of Environment Protection Service, presented materials in part of observing all environmental protection norms and requirements of international conventions by SE ZNPP.
Jointly, SE ZNPP representatives explained technical and economic expediency of lifetime extensions of ZNPP power units and talked about world experience in the area and about activities conducted in the frames of lifetime extension for ZNPP unit 3.
Further, public hearing in Novovodyane continued in “question-answer” format. Beside the topic of ZNPP lifetime extension, the talk was about issues of social protection of public living in ZNPP monitoring area, of ecological aspects of nuclear power generation industry activities, issues concerning ZNPP fuel suppliers, radwaste treatment and principles of SFDS system operation.
ZNPP specialists provided competent and comprehensive answers to all the questions.
SE ZNPP representatives thanked the organizers of the hearing for the friendly atmosphere and for the opportunity to discuss the topic of ZNPP unit 3 lifetime extension which is strategically important for stable operation of Ukraine’s power generation industry. They also expressed their preparedness to support constant dialogue with Dniprorudne public.
