NAEK Energoatom and Westinghouse are pleased to announce that we have reached agreement to significantly deepen our partnership that will provide technology and knowledge transfer to enhance the safety and operations of Ukraine’s nuclear power fleet.
Taking into account the profound significance of nuclear energy for the national security of the State of Ukraine, commitment to the highest operational and safety standards, as well as Westinghouse’s unparalleled experience in providing industry leading technology and operating performance enhancements, SE NNEGC “Energoatom” and Westinghouse have agreed to begin work on Efficiency Improvement Program (EIP) for Ukrainian NPPs. The EIP will deliver efficiency improvement activities to the Ukrainian nuclear fleet with due account of safety aspects, thus ensuring compliance with the best international benchmarks as well as specific requirements associated with the European Union’s standards as specified by the Western European Nuclear Regulatory Association (WENRA). These efficiency improvements will compliment the substantial safety-related activities already underway through the Comprehensive Integrated Safety Upgrade Program administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) and will yield significantly optimized operations of the Ukrainian NPPs. The benefits of these activities are intended to increase the annual availability of Ukrainian nuclear power plants that would result in substantial increases in power supply, profitability and extended opportunities for SE NNEGC “Energoatom” for electricity export to the European Union.
The EIP will bring together the best practices of global operating experience and advanced technology combined with resource capabilities of Ukrainian experts and industries.
This agreement to proceed on an Efficiency Improvement Program represents a significant new partnership between NAEK Energoatom and Westinghouse in the joint development of Ukraine’s nuclear energy.
